Adeline "Adele" Carter

Adeline "Adele" Carter Obituary (Age 80) Entered into rest October 12, 2014 in Spokane. She was born on April 11, 1934 in Salisbury, Missouri to Roy E. and Nell V. Smith. She graduated from Keytesville, Missouri High School in May 1952 and married William L. (Bill) Carter of Keytesville in January, 1954. They moved to Spokane in 1974 after 23 years as an Army wife. She was employed by W. Main Corporation for 19 years. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren and quilting. She made many quilts for her family and was instrumental in making sure that every child admitted to Sacred Heart Hospital with cancer received a personalized quilt. She volunteered her time and cooking skills to provide for the many homeless teens she referred to as her Crosswalk kids. She was a member of Washington State Quilters, Spokane Chapter and an active member of Country Homes Christian Church. Adele was a remarkable woman with a gift for making a difference in the lives of so many that knew her. She demonstrated incredible strength, optimism, faith and courage throughout her battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Billie E. and Jack E. Smith; sister, Helen Gebhardt; grandchildren, Christie and Matthew Hatcher. Adele is survived by her husband, William L. (Bill) Carter; sisters, Frances Pryor and Shirley Gundy (Walter); brother, Roy E. Smith(Lois); three children, Cheryl E. Williams (Jim), Catherine A. Hatcher (Don), W. Stephen Carter (June); four grandchildren, Brooke, Rachel, Stephanie and Scott; four great-grandchildren, Zachary, Colton, Carter and Avery. Services are scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, 2014 at 10am at Country Homes Christian Church, 8415 N. Wall St, Spokane, WA 99208. In lieu of flowers, Adele would love to know donations might benefit Crosswalk of Spokane and Hospice of Spokane.
