Aleen Smith Obituary Passed away June 6, 2009 at Clare Bridge of Spokane. She was born December 15, 1926 at Morris Ranch, Texas, the daughter of Robert G. Miller and Almeda (Helm) Miller. Aleen and her twin sister Geraldine were number 12 and 13 of 14 children, all now deceased. Aleen was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband of 56 years Ivan (I.D.) Smith of Spokane; a daughter, Cathy Repp; a son, David Smith, his wife Paula, all of Spanaway, WA; and a grandson Chad Repp of Louisville, KY. After graduating from high school at Medina, TX she worked for several years at the San Antonio Drug Company in San Antonio, TX, and then transferred to Morris Dickson Drug Company in Shreveport, LA. Aleen and Ivan met in 1951 while he was stationed with the U.S. Air Force at Barksdale AFB, near Shreveport and were married the following year. Aleen worked as a volunteer for many good causes over the years, most noteworthy would probably be the years she spent with the Red Cross. While the children were small, and to allow them to enjoy the scouting experience she was a den mother for the Cub Scouts and a Girl Scout Leader. Aleen loved to travel, and she and Ivan visited much of Europe. On another trip they saw much of New Zealand, Australia, and The Fiji Islands. Later they spent several weeks touring Alaska and over the years many trips in the lower forty eight. She thoroughly enjoyed the many camping and fishing trips made each summer. The highlight of the summer was always the Salmon fishing trip at Sekiu, WA. Of her many hobbies over the years, painting was certainly her favorite, to the delight of family and friends who were often the recipients of her work. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Fairmount Memorial Park, 5200 W. Welles
