March 09, 1942 - February 23, 2014

Barbara Ann Armstrong Obituary Our beloved mother passed peacefully in her home on February 22, 2014 just shy of her 72nd birthday. Barbara was born March 9, 1942 at Deaconess Hospital in Spokane to Francis W. and Julianne Franzen. Barbara never left Spokane. She grew up on a dairy farm west of Spokane and attended Cheney high school. In her youth she worked the dairy farm but her true love was her horses. With her former husband Forrest Armstrong they trained quarter horses and appaloosa?s throughout the northwest and Canada. After they separated Barbara took to training thoroughbreds until 1994 when she put her time into strictly breeding and raising thoroughbred race horses. Her success both on and off the track with winning races and producing top runners cannot be disputed. She loved every spring when the foals arrived to going to the various tracks to watch the former foals run. She is survived by her daughters Carrie Dean (Ken) Wamstad, Montevideo, MN, and Tracy Ann (Jeff) Healy, Spokane; her six grandchildren Clayton (Holly) Wamstad, Laurel, NE, Mica, Jaden, Jesse, Susannah and William Wamstad, Montevideo, MN; nephew Donald McGlasson, John Griffith; niece Julie Dalton, and her much devoted Pomeranian Dena Dog. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Betty Griffith and her nephew Kevin McGlasson. The family requests contributions be made to Hospice of Spokane. A Memorial Service will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Saturday, March 1, 2014 at 2:00pm. Family and friends are invited to a dinner following the service.
