Betty Jane Chase Obituary
(Age 84)
A resident of Plattsmouth, Nebraska, Betty passed away peacefully at her daughter's home in Plattsmouth of renal failure. Betty was born Betty J. Smith and raised in Franklin County, Ohio. She graduated from Grant Hospital Nursing School in Columbus, Ohio in 1946 as a registered nurse. Upon graduation, she married Lewis D. Chase, an Air Force pilot and worked as an RN at many hospitals and clinics across the country where he was stationed. Upon her husband's retirement from the Air Force in 1968, they moved to Spokane where she lived until moving to Nebraska to live with her daughter in 2001. Betty will forever be loved and remembered by sister Bernice Hempleman; her brothers Dick and Bill Smith; son Lewis Chase and his wife Nancy; daughter Sandra and her husband Russell Frye; treasured granddaughter Kari Chase; and countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her. Her passions were many and diverse. She was a proud member of the Daughter's of the American Revolution. She dearly loved Priest Lake, Idaho, and the summers she spent there with her husband and children. She also loved playing cards (pinochle and euchre), growing roses and being with her family, laughing, reading, and doting on her granddaughter. Betty touched the lives of many people with her smile and generosity, and maintained her zest for life to the end. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Lewis D. Chase, and her brother, Bob Smith. A private family graveside service will be held at Fairmount Memorial Park where she will be laid to rest next to her husband. Memorial contributions may be sent to Tabitha Hospice, 819 Central Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410. The nurses and staff of Tabitha provided wonderful care for Betty in her final days. Betty's favorite bible passage from Christ's Sermon on the Mount was Matthew 7:7, "Ask, and it shall be given to you; seek and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you."
