Bruce Dean Short Obituary Bruce Dean Short unexpectedly passed away on Saturday, August 14, 2010. He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Janet (Woodhurst) Short; his daughter, Kristi and son-in-law, Jeff Holbrook; his son, Darrin Short; his granddaughters, Lauren and Jillian Holbrook; his brother, Cal Short and wife Julie; his sister-in-law, Betty Short; and many other loved family members and friends. Bruce was born in Wenatchee, Washington in 1932, the son of Elmer and Elva Short. He was the baby of the family with six wonderful older brothers and sisters. Bruce became a lifelong resident of Spokane. He attended North Central High School where he participated in many sports and played the trombone in the marching band. Bruce was also a veteran of the Korean War where he was a staff sergeant who worked to keep the lines of communication running smoothly. After returning from Korea he was an employee of Pacific Northwest Bell for 40 years working as a troubleshooter and repairman. Bruce's family always came first in his life. He also loved hunting, fishing, and being outdoors. Bruce's motto for life could be summed up as follows: work hard, play hard, and remember to laugh a little each day. A private graveside service with military honors was held for Bruce on Wednesday, August 18th. Memorial contributions can be sent to Palliative Care Room at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center Foundation, P.O. Box 2555, Spokane, WA 99220-2555.
