August 27, 1934 - March 28, 2012

Charleen Theresa (Brown) Byrne Obituary Charleen Theresa Byrne (Brown) passed away on March 28, 2012 at the age of 77. Charleen was born August 27, 1934 in Sweetgrass, Montana. She married her high school sweetheart, Robert "Bob" Byrne of Oilmont, Montana in 1953. Later, Charleen supported Bob as he completed an accounting degree from Gonzaga University, and the couple made Spokane their home. Charleen and Bob raised six children. Throughout her life, Charleen cared for her family as a homemaker, brightened the lives of customers everyday as a grocery checker, and served as a surrogate grandmother to countless Whitworth University students where she worked. Her favorite place to relax was the family cabin at Deer Lake, where she spent endless hours driving the boat for skiers, playing cribbage with her grandchildren, enjoying cocktails with friends, and occasionally taking a spin on the jet ski. Charleen is preceded in death by her beloved husband Bob and her son, Rolland, as well as her parents, Agnes and Cecil Brown and brother Vern Brown. She is survived by her brother Kay Brown from Missoula, MT and sister Lola Kelleher, from Shelby, MT, as well as her children: son Daniel and wife Colleen, daughter Colleen and husband Jim O'Brien, son Timothy, daughter Terry and her husband David Oas, son Robert and wife Roslyn, and grandchildren: Christine Kolashinski, Sarah Everitt, Tyler Oas, Katie O'Brien, Tiffany Oas, Corrina O'Brien, Sheana and Serena Byrne. Charleen also has four great-grandchildren and extended family and friends who will miss her. The family wishes to thank the staff at Regency Northpointe for their considerate care of Charleen over the last seven years. A memorial mass is planned for 10:30 am on Saturday, April 21st at the Gonzaga Preparatory chapel (1224 E Euclid Ave), with a reception to follow at the Gonzaga Preparatory Barbieri Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions are made to Catholic Charities, Gonzaga Preparatory School, or Hospice of Spokane.
