David E. Mechals

12-Feb-10

David E. Mechals Obituary It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of David E. Mechals, our beloved Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather, Partner and Friend. David left us on Friday, February 12th, 2010 with his family by his side. David was a man of integrity, style and charm with a fun loving character. His love for music, art and singing always held a special place in his life. He wrote and recorded several original songs and performed at local nightclubs in the mid 60s under the name "Mark Dale". He also appeared in the Spokane Civic Theater's production of "Funny Girl" as the male lead "Nick Arnstein". He was elected the honor of Emperor Five of the I.S.C.S. in 1980. The one thing that he enjoyed the most was gourmet cooking. He loved to prepare elaborate meals for family and friends. It was his true joy. With a degree in commercial art, he achieved the position of head of the Advertising Department for Roundup Grocery Company. During his years at Roundup, he created advertising campaigns for the IGA and Empire food stores. In 1973 he joined his partner, Michael Lydon, as a co-owner of Beau K Florist. With his business experience and creativity he was able to help make Beau K one of Spokane's leading floral shops. David is survived by his partner of 39 years, Michael Lydon; son Gregory (Susan) Mechals; daughter Cheryl (Don) Hartzog; grandsons Ross Boatsman, Daniel Boatsman (Erin Lafferty), and very special great-grandson Samuel David Boatsman, born December 6, 2009. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Hospice of Spokane and to the wonderful staff for their compassion, care and support during David's illness. A Celebration of David's Life will be held at Dempseys Brass Rail, 909 W. 1st Ave., Sunday, February 21 at 4:00 p.m.
