Elizabeth "Betty" Fountaine Obituary (Age 88) Betty passed away on October 3, 2009. She was born May 10, 1921 in Oak Park, IL to Claude and Gladys Coon. She graduated from Iowa State University with a Home Economics degree and joined the U.S. Army in 1943. During her military term she met Robert Fountaine, whom she married on June 21, 1944. After WWII they moved to Spokane and started a family, having three children; Claudia (Chad), Doug, and Jan. Betty worked at the Spokane Daily Chronicle in the Dorothy Dean Dept. She reactivated her military training and worked as a Physical Therapist at Sacred Heart and Holy Family Hospitals for 30 years. Betty officially retired in 1990 but remained active in many volunteer programs as well as her church. Her husband died in 1987. She is survived by her children Douglas (Tammy) Fountaine, Claudia Black, and Jan Oman, as well as seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on October 8, 2009 at 10:30AM at Audubon Park United Methodist Church.
