Floyd Johnson

Floyd Johnson Obituary (Age 88) Died Monday, February 1, 2010 in Coeur d?Alene where he lived with his wife Betty. He was born Aug. 25, 1921 to Earl and Clara Johnson in Coeur d? Alene, Idaho, where he grew up on a farm. Floyd graduated from Coeur d?Alene High School, attended the University of Idaho and worked for the highway department. He served in the Navy during WWII and, later spent the majority of his career as a broker with Andre-Romberg Insurance in Spokane. He married Betty Bradbury on Nov. 19, 1963 and they had two children. Floyd resided with his family in Liberty Lake, Washington for 43 years and was a member of the Optimist Club. He felt strongly about preserving the environment and was instrumental in establishing the Liberty Lake Sewer and Water District, protecting the lake and local aquifer. He had a great appreciation for the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest and enjoyed spending time camping with his family in Canada. He had an avid interest in the history and pre-history of the Inland Northwest. Losing his vision to glaucoma and macular degeneration, Floyd was actively involved in the Blind and Low Vision group. Floyd spent his last years in a retirement home in Coeur d?Alene near his brothers. There, he was always interested in people?s stories. He was always the first to meet and greet the new residents at the care facility at which he was staying. Floyd is survived by his wife of 46 years, Betty (Bradbury) Johnson, two sons, Courtney (wife Yvonne) of Otis Orchards, Gordon (wife Madhumita Pal) of Portland, Ore., four grandchildren, Jeremy Johnson of Sacramento, Calif.; Jakala Bowling of Columbus, Ohio; and Samir and Tara Johnson of Portland. He is also survived by his sister Myrtle Burnett of Sandpoint, Idaho, brothers Edward and Raymond Johnson of Coeur d?Alene. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lawrence Johnson and Clare Johnson. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 8th from 3 to 5 p.m. at Templin?s Resort in Post Falls, immediately followed by a dinner for the family. Thank you Dad, you were always there for us, ready to listen, advise, help out and you never faltered as a father. We love you.
