George E. Ray (Jack) was born in Waverly, WA on June 15, 1917 to George and Elizabeth (Rakestraw) Ray. His first eight years were spent helping on his parent?s farm until his father died and the family then relocated to Spokane. In Spokane he attended Logan Elementary and North Central High School where he graduated in 1937. During his high school years he excelled at basketball which became a hobby that followed him into adult years as he played Commercial League basketball. It was also at N.C. High School where he met and began dating the love of his life, Laurine Grimmer. After high school he worked at Barclay Studios until he entered into the Army in 1941. Jack was a part of the Signal Corp attached to the Air Corp and served state side and in Agra, India until his discharge in 1945. On leave from Fort Lewis in 1942, George and Laurine were married. After being discharged he worked for the U.S. Post Office and was a mail carrier in Spokane for 32 years, retiring in 1977. During his postal career he also worked at Grimmer Transfer and Storage Company. Jack was a skilled carpenter and used his ability to purchase 4 lots and build three homes, including one for his in-laws. He built the family home where he and Laurine resided the remainder of their lives. Jack loved to camp and fish with friends and family. He enjoyed bowling in his retirement years and participated in numerous leagues. Jack?s craftsman skills blessed many and his talents were always in need. His spot on sense of humor, easy going spirit and handmade gifts will be missed but treasured always. He is survived by his children: Diana (Art) DeFelice of Spokane, and George W. (Barbara) Ray of Kennewick WA, grandchildren Kelli Clark, Aaron Clark, Gavin DeFelice, Christi DeFelice and Lauren DeFelice along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Laurine, in 1999, daughter Susan Minnick, in 2001, brother Wayne Ray and sister Kay Reed. There will be a Memorial Service at 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 16th at Heritage Funeral Home. Memorial Contributions can be made to Holy Family Foundation 5633 N. Lidgerwood St.
