Harry Levitch

Harry Levitch Obituary (Age 85) Harry passed away on August 29, 2011. He was born October 27, 1925 in Spokane, WA, the son of Meyer and Rose Levitch. He attended Wilson Grade School and Lewis & Clark High School. Harry was an Eagle Scout. He served in the Navy during WWII, starting with boot camp and Hospital Corps School at Farragut. Later he was transferred to Bremerton Naval Hospital and attended Laboratory Tech School for six months. After this course he was shipped overseas and assigned to the Marines. The Marines all called him ?Doc?. On one occasion he even took care of Japanese POWs. When the war was over he was transferred back to the Navy at Barber?s Pt. N.A.S., Hawaii. He was discharged in Bremerton, WA in May 1946. Harry then attended the University of Washington on the GI Bill, receiving a B.A. degree. He married Ruth Joyce McMillan August 22, 1948. Their son Bruce was born in June 1950 and daughter Adele was born June 1953. Harry obtained a law degree from Gonzaga Law School and he also worked in the family business, Liberty Furniture Co. After the furniture store closed in 1989 he went into the private practice of law. Harry joined the Washington Army National Guard as a Judge Advocate and retired as a Colonel. He divorced Joyce in the late 1970s and married Patty Bell in 1982. They divorced in 1985. He married Virginia Willms in 1985. They took many trips together around the U.S. Virginia passed away May 30, 2011. Harry had a great love for German Shepherd dogs. He owned five from 1963 to his last dog, Daisy Mae. Harry was a member of Temple Beth Shalom, the Washington State Bar and Spokane County Bar Associations, life member of National Guard Association of Washington and a life member of VFW Post #51. He was also Lawyer Emeritus with the WSBA and he did pro bono work for the Center for Justice in Spokane. Harry is survived by his brother David J. (Frieda) Levitch; his children Bruce (Lily Pham) Levitch and Adele Cook; stepchildren Kathleen Graham, Sharon (Dale) Dillinger, Gary (Donna) Willms, and Robert (Debbie) Willms; one grandchild and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday and Thursday, September 7th and 8th from 1:00 ? 3:00pm. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 11:00am at Heritage Funeral Home, Rabbi Michael Goldstein officiating, followed by a Graveside Service with full military honors at Fairmount Memorial Park. Immediately following the Graveside Service, an Honor Service and reception will be held at the VFW Post #51, 300 W. Mission Avenue. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross or a charity of your choice.
