Helen G. Briggs Obituary (Age 97) Passed away Tuesday, March 17, 2015 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Helen was born in Colfax, WA on September 30, 1917. She was one of four children who were raised in Readan, WA. Her parents were Olaf and Lena Olson. Olaf worked for the railroad. After graduating from Reardan High School in 1935 Helen came to Spokane and went to the School of Nursing at St. Luke?s Hospital and graduated as an RN in 1939. While in school she met the love of her life Henry Briggs on a blind date and were married for 54 years prior to his death in 1996. They enjoyed each other no matter what they did. Whether it was traveling, being with friends, or relaxing and fishing at their lake home at Coeur d?Alene Lake. Helen kept busy playing bridge, working with her garden club, and cooking wonderful meals. Everyone couldn?t wait to get a jar of her canned peaches. Helen and Henry were very active in their church at St. Mark?s Lutheran and were charter members. She liked singing in the choir. Helen is survived by her children Peter Briggs and Pamela Cloninger, both of Spokane; five grandchildren Ryan, Tarrah, Brooke, Blake and Brittney; seven great-grandchildren Coulter, Jack, Audrey, Bridger, Henry, Sally, and Ava. Helen loved visiting with her family and telling stores of when she was growing up. Helen will be greatly missed. A private entombment was held at Fairmount Memorial Park. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mark?s Lutheran Church, 24th Ave. and Grand Blvd. on Monday, March 23rd at 10:00am. Memorial contributions may be given to the charity of your choice.
