Helen (Toevs) Eskeberg

February 17, 1928 - January 29, 2012

Helen (Toevs) Eskeberg Obituary Died January 29, 2012 after a sudden and unexpected abdominal hemorrhage. Helen was born in Spokane as the only child of Walter and Ruby Toevs on February 17, 1928. Helen graduated in 1945 from Lewis Clark High School in Spokane, where her father Walt was a longtime teacher. Helen attended Washington State University and joined Chi Omega staying active with the sorority the rest of her life. She married Jack Eskeberg on June 19, 1948. Jack and Helen's four children, Linda, Karen, Walt and Bruce were born in Spokane. Helen was dedicated to the raising of her four children, was active as one of the founding members of Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church, worked with the Episcopal Church Cursillo program and was active in the Spokane Lilac Festival for many years. Helen especially enjoyed needlework and other crafts. She was an accomplished seamstress. Spending time with family and friends was her greatest joy. For the past ten years Helen and Jack have been active building wooden trucks for Catholic Community Services. Along with many helpers, they would routinely turn out over 1,000 trucks per year. Helen is survived by her husband of 63 years, Jack; her three children Karen, Walt and Bruce; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Helen was preceded in death by her older daughter, Linda, in 1976. Helen's love, focus, and dedication were to her family and she will be greatly missed. In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial gifts be given to Saint Stephen's Columbarium, 5720 South Perry, Spokane, WA 99223. A Memorial Service and inurnment will be held at Saint Stephen's Episcopal Church, 5720 South Perry, Spokane, at 2 p.m. on Thursday, February 2, 2012.
