Jack E. Henderson (Lt.Col.USAF Ret.) Obituary HENDERSON, Jack E. (Lt. Col. USAF Ret) Born October 28, 1926 in Spokane, WA, Passed away October 13, 2009 from prostate cancer. Beloved husband, father and cherished Papa is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jean; his children Kris (Mike) Stanek, Jacque (Brian) Marmon, Colleen (Mike) Weflen, Teresa (Duane) Fotheringham, Paul (Pam) Henderson, Elizabeth (Rick) Champion; and fourteen grandchildren, Tony and Gina Marie Hatcher, Andrea and Jonathon Stanek, Shelby Henderson-Baum, , Lindsay and Phillip Weflen, Luke, Gabe and Jack Champion, Ian Fotheringham, Cody and Trevor Moore and Russell Marmon. He was preceded in death by his first wife Marie Alice Henderson and his great-grandson, Brayden Baum. Jack grew up in Lewiston, ID and Spokane, WA. He opted for an early graduation in 1945 from Gonzaga High School so he could join the US Navy and serve his country during World War II. He served in the Navy for one year. In 1950 he joined the US Air Force and attended flight school. He went on to serve 22 years in the Air Force and had a distinguished career as a pilot. While flying an F-80 fighter in the Korean War as a 1st Lieutenant, Jack was shot down on August 28, 1951 and was a prisoner of war for 2 years. He was repatriated on August 28, 1953. From 1978 to 1981 Jack was employed as a building inspector with the city of Spokane. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at Luigi's Italian Restaurant; 245 W Main Ave, Spokane, WA; Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 2:00 PM. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to Hospice of Spokane.
