Jessie M. Fletcher

September 08, 1921 - February 11, 2010

Jessie M. Fletcher Obituary (Age 88) Our adored and beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, niece and friend went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, February 11, 2010. Jessie was born in Slaton, Texas on September 8, 1921, to Cornell and Martha Scody. Martha passed at an early age and Cornell and her second mother, Nancy, raised Jessie. During World War II Jessie moved to Vancouver, Washington to work in the shipyards as a welder and then to Grand Coulee to work on the dam. She later relocated to Spokane, where she met the love of her life, Tommy L. Fletcher. On October 27, 1951 they were united in holy matrimony and were blessed to spend fifty-eight wonderful years together. Jessie was one of the six founding members of Morning Star Baptist Church in the mid-forties where she attended until she became homebound from illness. She loved to listen to gospel music and be-bop to some blues. Jessie will always be remembered for her never-ending giving heart and her incredible delicious cooking. People came from miles around just for a slice of her famous sweet potato and lemon meringue pies. She was a full-time mother and friend to all, no one ever left her home without a meal. For over thirty years Jessie opened up her home and was a foster mother to over twenty-nine foster children. She also loved to spend time with her children and grandchildren creating memories that will last forever. Jessie was preceded in death by her father, Cornell Scody, mothers, Martha and Nancy Scody, brother, Jack Scody Jr., sister, Betty Wilson and son, Tommy J. Brown. Jessie will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memories, her husband, Tommy L. Fletcher; daughters, Geneva Dunbar, of Spokane, Susan Sparks (Bobby) of Kennewick, WA; son, Bobby Harvey of Spokane; "adopted" grandson, Eric Harvey of Spokane; sisters, Pearl Harris, and Helen Davis, both of Lubbock, TX; fifteen grandchildren, forty-two great-grandchildren, a host of foster children, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends. Visitation will be Tuesday 10-5PM at the funeral home and Funeral Service 10:00AM, Wednesday, February 17, 2010 at Morning Star Baptist Church 3909 W. Rowan Ave.
