Katherine Snipes Obituary
?Care for the body
as though you would live forever--
Care for the spirit
as though you would die tomorrow?
Care for the earth
as she is the Mother of All Life.?
--Katherine Snipes
Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Great-grandmother, ?Sister?, Friend, Crone, Wisdom Keeper, Author, Poet, Artist, Master Gardener, Gentle Quiet Soul, has joined Great Earth Mother, leaving no enemies or a cross word for anyone. She walked with honor and dignity the single-path labyrinth road of life to find the goal of center despite the complexities and sorrows of her journey through this life.
Katherine and Roy, her husband of 67 years, raised three sons; Roger (wife Marga), Brian (wife Wanda), and David (wife Valerie) on a small ranch located in the Garden Springs area of Spokane. Grandsons Ben and Virgil along with their families live in and around Spokane.
?Today is a good day to die for all the things of my life are present.?
Crazy Horse
Her large garden was a constant source of inspiration for her writings, fresh wholesome food for her family, and a meeting place of women. Attending college in later life, once the children were grown, she taught at her alma mater Eastern Washington State University in the English department for many years. Noted author of books on Robert Graves and Robert Penn Warren, Katherine also published a very personal cookbook ?Cakes for the Queen of Heaven? with the help of her son Roger, daughter-in-law Marga, and dear friend Carol Eckart.
?Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem? The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes for the queen of heaven?.?
Jeremiah 7:17-18
Ever truthful to the nature of Changing Woman, she moved through the stages of life with grace, dignity, and respect for all things.
?Day chases day, each passing moment rake
Away a grain of life, and while we, you and I,
Would rather have lived on, lo, all at once we die,
Here happiness is not, but peace and freedom are.?
Alexander Pushkin, 1834
Katherine touched many, we her family would like to thank everyone at Rockwood Manor and Estates for their wonderful care and friendship. As was her wish, no ceremony or memorial will be held. For those who knew her you know this to be true? for those who loved her most she will never be forgotten and will eternally be remembered for all she was and for all she taught us each and every day!
?Hail, Goddess, for the fruits of the earth;
Hail, Goddess, for the love of the body;
Hail, Goddess, for the light of spirit, and for the power of
transformation.?
?Dedication to an ancient deity, invoked as I was gathering broccoli in my garden.?
