Kathleen "Kitty" Clare Gillespie Obituary Died peacefully on Friday, April 17, 2009 at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, WA surrounded by loved ones. Kitty began her interesting life in Spokane, Washington, on March 29, 1954, the second of four girls. She is preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Jo, and her father, James Gillespie. Kitty attended Catholic schools and earned her teaching certificate through the Evergreen State College and the University of North Dakota. She received her Master's Degree in Cultural Anthropology from Gonzaga University. Kitty fostered a strong interest in social justice and actively involved herself in local and state politics. She worked for over fifteen years for the Department of Ecology in Olympia and was tirelessly dedicated to serving the public trust. She was a strong environmental advocate. Kitty is survived by her mother, Nancy; sisters, Robin and Janet; brother-in-law, Irwin Lightstone; niece Barbara; nephew Martin, and dear friend Xuanly Le. Also surviving are foster brothers, Angel and Alberto Diez. Services will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 23, 2009 at Heritage Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the National Epilepsy Foundation or an environmental advocacy group of choice.
