September 23, 1952 - February 10, 2010

Leona Gail (Morton) O'Brien Obituary Leona Gail O'Brien known to everyone she knew as Gail, lost her battle with cancer and passed away February 10, 2010 with her loving family and friends by her side. Gail was born September 23, 1952. She was raised in Billings, Montana. The family moved to Wenatchee. She attended Wenatchee High School and graduated in 1972. Gail went to work for the State of Washington at the Oroville Social Health Services in 1974. Shortly after she transferred to Washington State Employment Agency in East Wenatchee in 1977. She was transferred to the Spokane Agency in 2003. She made her home there and began a new life. She acquired a lot of friends at the Spokane agency. The family is so grateful for all the outpouring of love and generosity and support financially, spiritually, and emotionally. The Spokane office put on a spaghetti feed and a white elephant sale to raise funds, along with donating numerous vacation hours and sick pay to support her for these past months. They are a wonderful group of people and there are no words to express how thankful she and her family feel. She was blessed to find out how many people care in the last months of her life, and was deeply thankful and moved by this. Gail was a very kind hearted, God fearing woman. She was an avid gardener and always had a garden where ever she lived, big or small depending on the room. She canned, and was certified as a Master Food Preserver through State Co-Op Extension Service. She also dried and froze just about everything. She worked from sun up till sun down and loved to share all of her goods with family, friends, and neighbors. She also loved crafts and was very talented in this area. She started a little side business called Native Nurture, making children's realistic teepees. Countless hours and love went into every one of them. She was an animal lover and was surrounded by several devoted pets, which are going to her children and grandchildren. Gail is survived by three children: Jason Carter of E. Wenatchee, Ben Carter of E. Wenatchee and Michelle O'Brien of Spokane; two granddaughters Jordyn and Madisyn; her mother Aletha Jensen of Albion; father Leo Morton and stepmother Genelle Morton of Wenatchee; sister and brother-in-law Kathleen and John Smith of Pullman; two sisters-in-law Diane Sjolander and Jean Harkness of Wenatchee; one niece Jennifer Smith of Kennewick; and one nephew Walker Sjolander. She will be forever in our hearts and missed every day of our lives. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
