Lloyd E. Stannard

Lloyd E. Stannard Obituary On November 3, 2009, our loving father and grandfather, Lloyd Stannard, passed away peacefully at Holy Family Hospital at the age of 97. Lloyd was born in 1912 on the family homestead in Eastern Washington, where he was the third of five children. He was raised by his father and aunt after the early passing of his mother. He went on to earn his degree in education from WSC (WSU) and played football for the Cougars. During this time he also met his loving wife, Ruth, and they celebrated 64 happy years of marriage. He spent forty years as an educator and coach; serving communities of Garfield, Odessa and Davenport, prior to accepting a position as Director of Extension Services for the Community Colleges of Spokane. Lloyd finished out his career serving as President of Spokane Community College until his retirement date in 1977. Lloyd served on the WIAA District Board of Directors, was a 50 year member of the Odessa Masonic Lodge and was involved with the State "B" girls' basketball tournament. Lloyd enjoyed golf, fishing, gardening, playing pinochle and visiting with his friends at the Donut Parade. He entertained many people with his stories and great sense of humor. Lloyd is survived by his daughter Janet (husband Larry), son Bruce (wife Maxine), daughter-in-law Susan, eight grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by wife, Ruth, son Richard (Dick), and four brothers and sisters. A viewing will be held on Friday, November 6, 2009 from 1 - 5 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 7, 2009 at 10 a.m. at Heritage Funeral Home.
