Margaret Marie Erickson

April 15, 1940 - June 09, 2009

Margaret Marie Erickson Obituary Born April 15, 1940 to Fred and Margaret Krause and a life-long resident of Spokane, passed away June 9th, 2009 at her home with her loving husband and children by her side. A naturally happy and joyful person, she was an inspiration to all as she maintained this outlook even during her courageous three year battle with cancer. Since her very early life, her ambition was to be a teacher. She graduated in three years from Whitworth College with a degree in education and later earned her master's degree and administrative credentials. After college, she taught for the Spokane Public Schools, Whitworth College, and the Central Valley School District. She loved working as an intermediate classroom teacher and also when her career changed into a district coordinator position. During retirement she painted extensively, did stained glass work, tole painting and wrote and illustrated delightful children's short stories and poems. She loved traveling and these experiences usually centered around water and beaches. She loved beach-combing and searching for "treasures" on any beach, almost as much as she enjoyed her time with her children and grandchildren. Margaret is survived by her husband of nearly 30 years, Francis Erickson; two sisters, Elizabeth Close, Renton, and Linda Garratt, Spokane; her children, Brian Briggs and daughter-in-law Denise of Spokane, Belinda Montgomery and son-in-law Jon of Chewelah, Jami Stuart and son-in-law Don of Spirit Lake, and Joel Erickson of Seattle; Six grandchildren, Ashley Rex, Caleb Montgomery, Brigitta Briggs, Annika Briggs, Isaac Montgomery, Meredith Montgomery, and great-grandchild, Alaina Rex. Margaret was very loved and will be greatly missed. Services will be held on Monday, June 15, 10:00 a.m., at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 S. Schafer Rd, Spokane, WA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane.
