Marshall Jay Gates Obituary Marshall passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family, after a long, courageous struggle with diabetes and kidney failure. He was born in Seattle to Marshall Jay Gates, Sr. and Hazel Gray Gates. His father was a career naval officer and Marshall lived in many locations around the world, including London, England; Karlsruhe, Germany; Washington, DC where he attended St. John�s Military Academy and San Diego, CA, where he graduated from Herbert Hoover High School. Upon graduation, he spent four years in the US Marine Corps where he trained and was stationed in San Diego; Memphis; Cherry Point; Atsugi, Japan; Danang, Vietnam; Iwakuni, Japan and Okinawa.He was honorably discharged and settled in Los Angeles where he attended Northrop Institute of Technology. In 1968, he married the love of his life, Beverly, and enthusiastically and lovingly assumed the role of father to three very young children � Lynn, Karen, and Brian Gilden � whom he cherished as his own. In 1977, Marshall brought his family to Wolf Lodge (Coeur d�Alene) where they operated a small, family run sawmill before moving to Spokane, Washington, which became their permanent home. Marshall entered the world of commercial real estate, and, eventually, he and his wife, Beverly, opened Gates Realty, Inc. Marshall began collecting stamps as a youngster which became a lifelong hobby. He also enjoyed bicycling and cross-country skiing. He is survived by his wife, Beverly; daughters Lynn Gilden (Suzana), Karen Gilden (Rehwaldt), and son, Brian Gilden (Suerain Davenport); granddaughters Tori Hadassah Rehwaldt and Dena Shoshona Rehwaldt; honorary granddaughter Katy Izakson and step grandchildren Travis, Cassidy, and Amy Rehwaldt; younger brother Theodore and younger sisters Mary Gates and Kathrine Gates Morris (Chuck); Aunts Catherine and Dorothy and numerous cousins and other relatives. Funeral Services 2:00PM Tuesday February 25, 2014 at Heritage Chapel followed by a graveside service at Mt. Nebo Cemetery with military honors.
