June 24, 1920 - March 19, 2015

Mary E. Suhadolnik Obituary Mary E. Suhadolnik, 94, a longtime resident of Prosser, passed away peacefully on March 19, 2015 in Spokane, WA. Mary was born June 24, 1920, in Preston, MN to William F. and Maggie V. Hanning. The youngest of six children, she moved to the family farm outside of Reardan, WA when she was an infant. Mary was a graduate of Reardan High School. She majored in Education at Washington State College, graduating in 1943, and began her teaching career in Prosser. It was in Prosser that she met her beloved husband, Stephen. They married on August, 17, 1947. After the births of five children, Mary rejoined the work place, teaching typing and business machines classes at Prosser High School, from where she retired in 1979. Teaching was her special gift and she loved hearing from former students about how her commitment and encouragement in the classroom impacted their lives. After the death of her husband in 1983, Mary became an avid bridge player and, to her surprise, earned a trip to Seattle with bridge partner, Jo Klarich, in 1993 to play for the North American 49er Pairs Bridge finals. In addition to a good game of cards, she loved to travel, frequently visiting her children, baking cookies for her grandchildren, and doing needlepoint and counted cross stitch. Mary is preceded in death by her husband and five older siblings and son-in-law Salvatore Sorrentino. Survived by her children Karen Sorrentino, Stephen Suhadolnik, Susan (Richard) Broughton, Mark (Roberta) Suhadolnik, and Carol (Jerome) Aiken; grandchildren Todd (Amanda) and Megan Broughton (Collin Masteller), Kate and Hannah Suhadolnik, Alex and Stephen Aiken; and great-granddaughter Zoe Masteller. A reception hosted by the family is planned for April 11, at Desert Wind winery in Prosser from 1:00 4:00 pm. Friends, colleagues, and former students are invited to attend and celebrate Marys life. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association--Inland Northwest Chapter. A special thank you to the staff at Brookdale's Clare Bridge facility for the wonderful care they gave our mother and grandmother during the last year and a half.
