Nelda V. Smith Obituary (Age 87) Of Nine Mile Falls passed away at home August 22, 2009. She was born in Wagner, MT on October 31, 1921. Nelda moved to Spokane in 1952 and worked for the Spokane County Courthouse cafeteria for many years. She was a participating member of the Lilac Blind Foundation's "Day out for the Blind". She was a loving mother and grandmother. Nelda was a person who was giving and caring, who always put others ahead of herself. She was preceded in death by her husband Lowell C. Smith and daughter Peggy Lyles. She is survived by her brother Robert Holman of Chinook, MT; sister Joyce Kovach of Hot Springs, AR; sons Leon J. Messerly (Linda) of Talladega, AL; Edward J. Mayer (Cindy), of Nine Mile Falls, WA; 11 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 27th at Heritage Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lilac Blind Foundation, 1212 N. Howard, Spokane, WA 99201.
