Patricia J. Young Obituary (Age 60) Pat was born January 10, 1954 in Sunnyside, Washington and passed in Spokane, Washington March 8, 2014. Pat was the daughter of an Air Force pilot and a master gardener/home-maker. She lived on several military bases until she graduated from Plattsburgh High School in upstate New York. Pat attended college at Washington State University and graduated with a degree in fine arts. She was a talented artist, who inherited her artistic skill from her Mother and maternal and paternal Grandmothers. She had many artistic endeavors throughout her life; she enjoyed drawing, ceramics, photography, pottery and made some wonderful pieces that are treasured by family. Pat served her country in the Washington Air National Guard in her early twenties. Following her time in the Guard she started work for Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad as a brakeman for several years and was promoted to a conductor in later years. Pat was proud to work for the Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railroad for over 35 years. Her family was proud of her work and every now and then they saw her driving by in the engine car in downtown Spokane. Pat got her love of gardening and her green thumb from her Mother. Pat loved flowers and always had a large flower garden and especially loved irises. She was also on the lookout for a new color and would bargain for the bulbs the following year so she could add a unique color in her garden. Pat was a collector of things - in particular clothes, shoes, earrings and frogs seemed to be the main focus of her accumulation over the years. You might ask how many pairs of jeans does one woman need - Pat had over 50. She also had over two hundred pair of earrings which will be available at her Life Celebration as a last gift from Pat to all. Although some might refer to Pat as a shopaholic, she was always prepared and had on hand backup supplies, usually up to four each of whatever it was she needed. Pat is survived by her husband of 18 years, Art Young; siblings Lynn (Russ) Dahmen, Jeanne Kinney and Mike (Nancy) Kinney. She is also survived by her niece Dani (Jon) Powers; three nephews Aaron (Lallah) Dahmen, Taylor (Emma) Kinney and Hayden Kinney; and two grandnephews; Francis Powers and Oscar Dahmen and one grandniece Ellie Dahmen. She is also survived by her stepson Michael Young. Pat was predeceased by her parents Charles Wilson Kinney and Norma Jean Kinney. Pat always shared her life with animals and had many cats and dogs (and don't forget the chickens and rabbits) over her lifetime. Sugar Bear (Maltese and Shih-Tzu mix) is her most recent dog, which always comforted her when Art was away, and now comforts Art. One of the last conversations he had with Pat was her request to give Sugar a kiss for her. Art, with help from Pat's family, will be creating a living memorial for her that incorporates things she loved. If you are planning on sending flowers for the service - in lieu of cut flowers; potted plants, bulbs, seeds or tree seedlings would be preferred and they will be planted so they live on in her memory at Art and Pat's home. Graveside service will be Saturday, March 15, 2014 at 11am at Greenwood Memorial Terrace - Arlington West. Directly after the service there will be a Celebration of Pat's Life at their home; all are invited to attend.
