Patricia L. McMahon Obituary
(Age 74)
In loving memory of Patricia McMahon, who passed away on February 25, 2010. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Arthur and Edith Thomas of Spokane, and by her
brother Edward Thomas. She is survived by her son Mike McMahon of Boise, ID and his daughter Valerie Jones, her daughter and son-in-law Beth and Roy Morey of Kirkland, WA, her sister Kathryn Litzenberger ofSpokane, niece Karla Litzenberger of Seattle, and nephews John Litzenberger of Port Townsend and Tom Litzenberger of Spokane.
Patricia was born April 16, 1935 in Weiser, Idaho and lived most of her life in Spokane. Having discovered the joys of libraries at an early age, she put herself through college working part time at the public library, and graduated summa cum laude in 1957 from Gonzaga University with a Bachelor of Education. Her desire to travel led her to teach four years in Augsburg, Germany for the Department of Defense. She then returned to Spokane School District 81, where she taught for over 30 years, sharing her love of books and storytelling talents as an elementary school librarian, most recently at Hamblen and Sheridan elementary schools. After retirement she volunteered at the Manito public library, and travelled extensively throughout the United States, from Alaska to Key West, and to Greece, most often with her life-long friend Wanda Woodbury. She loved bookstores, music, history, Pooh stories, and knowing the answer to virtually every Final Jeopardy question. She will be greatly missed. Her family invites friends of
Patricia to gather for a
celebration of life service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 10 at Hamblen Presbyterian Church,
4102 S. Crestline St. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Patricia's remembrance may be made to the American Cancer Society or to Hospice of Spokane.
