Raymond Oliver Thur, Jr. Obituary He was born on October 4, 1942 in Fargo, North Dakota to Raymond and Kathryn Thur his parents, who he precedes in death. Ray and his family moved to Spokane when he was 12 years old in 1954. Ray attended Garden Springs elementary in the Garden Springs area and received his GED in 1961. Ray was the oldest of 4 brothers and is survived by his brothers and their spouses Richard and Shirley Thur of Woodingdale WA, Ronald and Patricia Thur of Suncrest, WA and is survived by his spouse of 50 years, Marilyn K Thur. Ray and Marilyn first met in 1963 and they were married on April 7, 1965. Ray and Marilyn had celebrated their 50th wedding Anniversary on April of this year with many friends and family in attendance at their surprise 50th Anniversary party. Ray always referred to Marilyn as his �Special Lady�; 3 children, Craig A McVey, Linda J McVey, and Brian C Thur, of Spokane WA; 6 grandchildren, Tonya, Angie, Matthew, Tamara, Casey, and Corey, 11 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Ray was proud of his time he spent working for Spokane Community College, having worked 25+ years for the Plant dept. at SCC, as a maintenance worker and heavy equipment operator before he retired in early 2000. Ray made numerous friends and acquaintances amongst the faculty and staff at SCC, during his working career there. Ray was also, proud and honored for his time he spent as a Special Deputy Police officer. Ray was a commissioned police officer with Spokane County, having worked at the Spokane Interstate Fair and other business establishments in Spokane for many years, in that capacity. Ray was a very outgoing and sociable person. Ray was very well loved and highly liked by numerous family, numerous friends and his terrific neighbors, all of whom he had the pleasure of knowing and befriending during his 73 years of life. Ray enjoyed a variety of hobbies and traveling with his beloved wife Marilyn, in their travel trailer, once he retired. He was an avid photographer and jewelry designer. He posted many of his pictures of nature, wildlife, old barns and other building structures on websites such as Face book and Flickr. Raymond was very fond and proud of awards that he won with some of the pictures he had taken and posted online. Ray and Marilyn were avid jewelry designers, and they designed and sold several Indian and wildlife themed jewelry pieces, to many happy and repeat customers throughout their many years of designing and selling jewelry together. Raymond considered himself a �Wheeler/Dealer� and had the gift of being able to talk to anyone he met, anywhere, anytime and about any subject. Ray fought a courageous battle with cancer that he finally succumbed to, at home with his spouse and family by his side, on November 20th 2015. A special thank you to Hospice of Spokane and their exceptional staff of professionals who were there for Ray and his family, during his last days of life.
