Richard A Young

Richard A Young Obituary native of Spokane, Washington was received by the Lord Jesus Christ on Friday June 8, 2012. Rich was born on September 20, 1936. He married his loving high school sweetheart Darlene Gardner-Pankey on September 14, 1957 and was married 55 years. Rich moved to Phoenix in 1964 from Spokane staying in the hotel business, and landed a job with the Del Webb townhouse as a bellman. He left Phoenix in 1973 and moved to Seattle to join the Hyatt Hotel Corporation as a sales manager at the Sea-Tac property. He became a general manager for Hyatt and managed several properties (Hyatt Hotel City of Commerce, Hyatt Regency Memphis, Hyatt Regency Los Angeles, and Hyatt Regency Phoenix). He left Hyatt in 1982 and joined the Marquis Hotel in Palm Springs, California. Richard held several other general manager positions including the Edgewater Hotel in Seattle, the Ridpath Hotel in Spokane, and the Cockatoo Hotel in Engelwood, California before retiring from the hospitality industry in 1998. In 1982 he and Darlene bought the old Comstock family mansion on the South Hill in Spokane and re-established their residency in Spokane. Rich loved to golf, fish, play pinochle, gin, cribbage, pool, and spending time with family and friends. Most importantly Rich was a believer in Christ, and was baptized in the Spring of 2009. He attended Life Center Church with Darlene. He is survived by two children (son-Mark and his wife Kelly, and daughter -Conni), five grandchildren (Tyler, John, Abigail, Hannah, and Micah), three brothers (Harold, Ralph, and Paul Young), two sisters (Dorothy Brown and MaryAnne Ehnert), his brother in-law (Allen Pankey and his wife Claudia), 14 nephews and nieces, many wonderful friends, and his dog Belle whom he all loved.
