Richard "Dick" Broyles Obituary
Dick passed away March 21, 2009. He was the only child of Anna Mae and James Roy Broyles, born December 20, 1930, in Pomeroy, WA. At age 7 his family moved to Spokane where he lived his entire life. After graduating from Lewis and Clark High School in 1948 he attended Washington State University. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1951, serving four years as a corpsman at naval hospitals in San Diego, CA and Japan. In 1957 he married Donna McKee, his wife of 52 years. He was an entrepreneur at heart. During the late 1950s and 60s he owned and operated two restaurants. He later became a partner in real estate with his cousin Ken Broyles. He made a career change in the early 80s to become a commercial tile contractor. At the time of his death, he was still active in his trade. Dick had a passion for sports. He was an avid softball player and a founding member of the Airway Heights Softball Association. He was active in the Inland Empire Football Officials Association, officiating for 30+ years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who enjoyed camping trips with his extended family and friends at Priest Lake and Klink's Williams Lake Resort. He and Donna enjoyed traveling in their RV and attending their grandkid's sporting events. He especially enjoyed the time spent with his friend of 70 years, Joe Tanaka. He regularly attended the Second Church of Christ Scientist. He is survived by his wife Donna, their children Lisa (Jim) Brown, Linda (Jerry) McDermott of Spokane; Gregg (Ruth) Broyles of Yakima; Chris (Jilleen) Broyles of Kirkland, and Jill (Jason) Domanico of Seattle; grandchildren Shawn, Drew, Maddie, Allie, Alex, Molly, Bo, Bailey and Anna; sister- and brother-in-laws Cheryl and Chuck Sheets, Paul and Joyce McKee; his nieces and nephews Debbie, Bill, Karen, Mike, Lance, Trevor, Jennifer, Ryan, Carrie and their spouses; cousins, friends; and his special dog Sage. Memorial Service will be held Monday, March 30th, 2009, 1:00PM at the Heritage Funeral Home - 508 N. Government Way, Spokane, WA.
