Richard Milton "Rich" Smith Obituary (Age 72) Richard passed away September 23, 2012. He was born June 13, 1940 in Ione, WA to Milton Blair and Marcella Alice (Beardsley) Smith. He attended Rogers High School followed by seven years in the Army Reserves. Throughout his life, Richard worked in various vocations. His favorite job was his last as a groundskeeper at Spokane Memorial Gardens cemetery where he could get up early and be outside. Richard is survived by his wife Mary Marie (Pariseau) of 54 years; sons David Louis Smith and wife Robin, Richard Blair Smith, and daughter Michelle Marie Lewis and husband Tim; siblings Ron Enyeart, Michael Enyeart, George Benson, Georgia (Benson) Stanley, Tommy Benson; grandchildren Heather Tinius-Trusty, Clinton David Smith, Geneva Marie Hauck, Sean Dawson Smith, and Fionn McArron Lewis; great-granddaughters Natalie Strandburg and Alexis Marie Smith. He was preceded in death by his sister Marlene Hettinger. Richard will always be remembered as an avid fisherman who could tell you the best spots for fishing in any of the area lakes with a special affection for Lake Roosevelt. Some of his last camping trips to Lake Roosevelt were surrounded by family in laughter and fish stories. He was also a member of the Spokane Walleye Club. As an enthusiastic sports fan, Richard followed nearly every professional and college team each season. He loved playing in recreational softball leagues and was a state champion horseshoe pitcher. Visitation will be at Heritage Funeral Home on Friday, September 28 from 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. and his Funeral Service will be on Saturday, September 29 at 2:00 p.m. also at Heritage Funeral Home.
