Roy E. Short Obituary
Long time resident of
Spokane passed away on April 17, 2010. He was 91 years old. Roy was born in Spokane on March 28, 1919 to Elva and Elmer Short. Roy was married to his childhood sweetheart Olive Olmstead in 1939 and they had 64 wonderful years together before her passing in 2003. Their son Gerald passed away in 1964. He is survived by his two sons Richard and his wife Jill, James and his wife Deborah and daughter Linda Sams and her husband Stan. Roy and Olive were also very proud of their eight grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Roy had two sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his brothers Clarence and his wife Julie and Bruce and his wife Janet, and sister-in-law Betty Short. Roy was a veteran of World War II. He served with distinction in the Pacific theater aboard the USS Blackhawk. After WWII Roy was hired on at Kaiser Aluminum Mead Works. He was proud of his several years in Wales helping to set up a new aluminum plant there. He retired after working at Kaiser for 36 years. Roy and Olive then travelled extensively in their motor home. He was an avid hunter and fisherman as well as an accomplished woodworker. Roy will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:30PM Saturday May 8, 2010 at Lidgerwood Presbyterian Church, 4449 N. Nevada Street. Heritage Funeral Home is assisting the family.
