Shirley Ann Schmidt Obituary (Age 78) Our loving sister and companion journeyed to God for eternal peace on February 6, 2014. She was born on September 10, 1935 in Spokane to Carl E. and Rosella Schmidt. Shirley graduated from Central Valley High School, Holy Names College and Sacred Heart School of Medical Technology. As a medical technologist, she was employed at Silverton and Kellogg, Idaho and for over 22 years in Davenport, Washington. As the laboratory supervisor of Lincoln Hospital, she modernized the lab with new equipment and expanded testing capabilities. She originated the annual health screenings for cardiac disease, diabetes and prostate cancer. Shirley organized several fund raisers with Cow Plop Bingo and memorial tiles to build a gazebo, patio area and garden behind Lincoln Hospital Nursing Home. Her hobbies included white-water rafting, skiing, camping, RVing, fishing, rock hounding and birding. Once was enough experiences were scuba diving and hot-air ballooning. Shirley loved outdoor activities as simple as barbecuing hot dogs or chopping firewood. She enjoyed flying over the Grand Canyon, Bryce and Glacier National Parks. Shirley is survived by her lifetime-companion Bettie Maron, sister Luella (Pat) Kangas, sister-in-law Shirley Joyce Schmidt, cousin Joanne West, several nieces and nephews, many friends and good neighbors Allen and Joanne Blair. We all miss her but she?s always in our hearts. We love you. Every time we see chocolate, we?ll remember you, Shirley. A funeral mass will be held Friday, February 14th at 11:00 AM at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.
