Steven Lee Halverson of Spring Creek, NV was tragically killed in a mining accident on June 6, 2009. Steve was born on May 15, 1952, in Spokane, WA to Richard and Bonnie Halverson. Steve leaves behind many friends and family including his father Richard L. Halverson, Spokane, WA; mother Bonnie Hutton, Kalispell, MT; daughter Nicole Barr, Spokane, WA and step-mother Barbara Bossuyt, Spokane, WA. Brothers Kim Halverson, Seattle, WA; Jay Halverson, Kalispell, MT; Robin Hutton, Sheridan WY, Rick Halverson, Spokane, WA; Randy Hutton, Sheridan, WY; and Jaime Hutton, Mooresville, NC; one sister Michelle Hutton, Kalispell, MT; step-sisters Vivian Kaylor, Grace Harbor, WA; Marsha Malsom, Spokane, WA and Mary Goben, Kennewick, WA as well as special friend Michele Skelly, Spring Creek, NV. Steve grew up in Newman Lake, WA, graduating from East Valley HS in Spokane in 1971. He worked for Fiberform Boats, Bearpaw Logging and, from 1987 ? present, Newmont Gold Mines. Steve loved the water, skiing, playing golf and drinking beer. Breakfast with his co-workers after the night shift was a special treat. He fancied himself a chef and loved to cook for his friends and family. At the age of 15, Steve rescued five people from drowning and received the prestigious Carnegie Hero award as well as recognition from the US Coast Guard, the Spokane County Sheriff's Dept., the Red Cross, and the VFW.
Steve was a kind man, generous to a fault. He was devoted to his family and many close friends. A Celebration of His Life will be held at Heritage Chapel on Monday, June 22, 2009 at 11 AM.
