Afton T. Moore Obituary
After a massive stroke and a 10 hour stay in Providence Sacred Heart Hospital, Afton passed away on
April 1 at the age of 93. She was born in St. George, Utah, the sixth child of Charles Woodruff Tullis and
Ethel Lucinda Leavitt. Afton's only surviving sibling is her brother Jerry Wilson Tullis (Lucy) in
Brentwood, California. At a young age Afton moved with her family to Idaho Falls, Idaho, where she
lived most of her life until moving with her husband to Spokane in the mid-nineties. At the young age of
16 she married the love of her life, Willard H. Moore. They had 62 loving years together before his
death in 1997. They are survived by their only child, Loretta Kilgore (Norman), 2 grandchildren, Rhonda
Johnson (Allen) and Douglas Franklin (Teresa), three great-grandchildren, Gavin Johnson, Lauryl
Johnson, and Shannon Johnson, all from Spokane and Spokane Valley. They are also survived by
numerous nieces and nephews. After their daughter married and moved to Spokane, Afton went to
beauty school in Idaho Falls and proudly passed her state board exams with a 100 percent. Instead of
starting a small salon in her home, the owner of the Vogue Beauty College in Idaho Falls asked Afton to
go back to beauty school and get her cosmetology instructor's certification. With her beautiful auburn
hair and impeccable grooming she was a wonderful role model for her students at the Vogue from 1963
thru 1975. But as her hearing began to fade she felt that she could no longer be an affective instructor
and retired from that position. In January, 1976, she took a sales position with LeVines, an elite
women's clothing store in Idaho Falls and continued there until retiring again in 1981. Eventually, in
1996, Afton and Willard moved to Spokane to be closer to their family and after Willard's death in 1997
Afton moved into a unit in the same apartment complex where her daughter and her husband, Norm,
have lived for many years. Afton was strongly independent and was able to live in her own apartment
until the time of her death. Afton loved and cherished her family, just as they loved and cherished her.
She will be greatly missed. The family suggests that any donations be made to the charity of your choice
or the American Heart Association. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m. in the
Heritage Funeral Home Chapel. Before the service viewing and visitation will be available from 10:00
a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at which time the family will gather for family prayer and the closing of the casket.
Interment will follow the funeral service at Riverside Cemetery.
