Alice J. (Stalsberg) Holladay Obituary (Age 90) Our loving sister, aunt and friend went to meet her Heavenly Father on Wednesday, September 2, 2009. Alice was born in Astoria, Oregon, October 12, 1918 to Alf and Karla Stalsberg. She graduated from Potlatch Idaho High School in 1937 as valedictorian of her class. Alice attended Lewiston State Normal School and graduated with honors. She received her B.A. and Master's Degree in Education from Whitworth College. Alice touched so many lives in her 40 years of teaching. She taught in a country school, Highland School, Rock Creek, Banner School, Potlatch Grade School, Dayton, WA, West Valley School District and for the last 30 years of her career she taught in School District 81, Spokane, WA. Alice also belonged to the Pillars, the Beacon Chapel Birthday Club, Vasa Lodge, Spokane Retired Teachers, the Westerners Club and Scandia Club at the Sons of Norway. Alice was very proud of her Norwegian heritage and always surrounded herself with her dearest friends. She was always there for her family and friends in their time of need. She never missed the opportunity to brighten someone's day with a gift or card. She was very generous and caring. Her hobbies included gardening, dancing and she always loved to decorate for parties that her clubs held. Her mother and father preceded her in death as well as her late husband Ellis O. Holladay. Alice is survived by her dear companion Robert Walther. Her loving family included her two brothers Roy A. Stalsberg (Barbara) of Cove Creek, Arizona and Ralph O. (Ruthie) Stalsberg of Ephrata, Washington, as well as four nieces, three nephews, three great-nephews, two great-nieces and several great-great nieces and nephews. Those lives that were touched by Alice will deeply feel her loss but will always remember her wonderful and loving ways. Thank you to the STA bus drivers who always got Alice to her destination and home safely each day. To the many people who would see and graciously assist Alice while she was out on her daily outings, we thank each and every one of you. The family would also like to extend a special heartfelt thank you to Angel Jackie Torstenson and her family for the love, care, devotion and loyalty they gave unconditionally to Alice. She loved you all and cherished your friendship. Many thanks to Dr. Shaw, Sacred Heart 7 South Nurses, and the wonderful staff at the Hospice House. Your gentle and loving ways meant a lot to her. Aunt Alice, you are now free to fly with the Angels and dance in the clouds. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, September 5th at 2:00 pm at Heritage Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sons of Norway and Hospice House of Spokane.
