Alice Jane (Hake) Knight Obituary (Age 97) Alice passed away February 2, 2010 at Riverview Care Center. She was born to Harley and Alma Hake on March 1, 1912, at Dockton, (Vashon Island) WA. All her life through her teen years was spent helping her parents on the farm where they had a bonded winery. The oldest of four children, Alice was entrusted with the care of her sister Norma and brothers Bud and Alan. Because of her duties she was able to complete only two years of high school. In 1929, she married Howard Knight, a carpenter from Seattle. They lived in Seattle all their 62 years of marriage, and where they raised their sons Jim "Howard" and Fred. Most of her life Alice was a home maker and an avid gardener. Her love of birds and fish allowed Alice to raise canaries and tropical fish to sell to pet stores. While working for a pet store she serviced aquariums in the Olympic Hotel's Marine Room. Alice's later years were spent traveling in the motor home with her son Jim and his wife Sue. She was always interested in collecting ideas and pictures to be used in her paintings. Many years after Howard passed away, Alice moved to the independent living facility of Northhaven in north Seattle. She lived there five wonderful years. In 2005 due to declining health and to be close to her son Fred and his family, she moved to Riverview Care Center in Spokane. Alice is survived by her son Fred (Darlene); daughter-in-law, Carrie Sue Knight; brother-in-law, David Greer; four grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild. Preceded in death by her husband Howard, son Jim "Howard" and granddaughter Debra. Memorial Services will be held February 12, 2010 at 1:00PM at Riverview Care Center, 1841 E. Upriver Dr., Spokane, WA 99207. Inurnment will be held at a later date at Vashon Island Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Eden Animal Fund, Riverview Care Center. The family wishes to thank the loving staff and Dr. Dentler for all the tender and understanding care they gave Alice.
