Alick Simchuk Obituary He was born May 10, 1918 in Hyas, Saskatchewan, Canada to George and Mary Simchuk. He moved to the West Plains area in 1919 and was raised on farms in the Fairchild area where he continued to live his whole life, graduating from Lewis and Clark in 1936. He married Margaret Melior in 1943 and they were married 49 years. In 1939 he was one of the business owners of Simchuk Sporting Goods and also farmed and ran the Simchuk Feed and Grain Milling operation. He had been very active in skiing and skated into his 70's. He was very generous with his time, skills and resources with everyone he met. He especially loved children, grew enormous gardens to share and he learned the art of preserving and was famous for his dill pickles and sauerkraut. In later years he enjoyed family dinners with his special nieces and nephews and coffee or lunch with friends. Vern helped build (1955) and attended Airway Heights Community Church; member of Elks Lodge, Sunset Grange, Selkirk Ski Club, active with the Spokane Soil Conservation Dist., 1970 named Farmer of the Year and in 2005 "Good Neighbor Award" from his West Plains neighbors. Survived by his daughter Andrea (Don) Crisp of Spokane; sons Dan (Jane) Simchuk of Portland and Tim Simchuk of Spokane; 4 grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family of 2 sisters and 4 brothers. The family would like to thank the Reynolds, Baileys, Gintzs, and many other families that have helped Alick. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00PM Saturday March 28, 2009 at Corbin Senior Activity Center 827 W. Cleveland. Memorial donations are suggested to the American Diabetes Assoc. 315 W.
