Allen L. Thompson entered peacefully into rest on March 15, 2011 at the Spokane Veteran's Home. He was born in Red Cloud, NE on May 21, 1924 to Samuel C. Thompson and Mildred G. (Stanser) Thompson the second of six children. He served in the Navy in both World War II and the Korean War, first on the USS O'Toole and then the USS Essex. He trained at the Farragut Naval Station, which brought him to Spokane where he met Lola M. Crooks. They were married in Sanger, CA and had a wonderful marriage and partnership for 63 years. Al was employed for 32 years by McKesson Drug Co. as a wholesale drug salesman. After retirement Al and Lola enjoyed traveling with friends and family. Good friends he left behind are Chuck and Shirley Arnold, Mac and Gladys McLaughlin and Jerry and Janet Peters. Al was preceded in death by his wife Lola, son Doug Thompson, daughter Gerry Lee Cooper, granddaughter Beth Williams, and by his parents and siblings. He will be forever cherished and admired by his two daughters and their husbands, Pam and Mel Nebelsieck and Jan and Dick Vanderweil of Spokane; grandchildren Jeff Nebelsieck, Mark Cromer, Shelley Lee, Carrie Jackson, Brad Williams, and Johnathan Cooper, nine great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Jack Crooks and sisters-in-law Rose Crooks, Helen Crooks and Gerry Rhodes. A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, March 26, 2011 at 2:00PM at Heritage Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Spokane Veteran's Home (Veterans Retirement Fund), VFW Post 1435, or the charity of donor's choice.
