Allen Thomas West

Allen Thomas West Obituary Allen was born March 31, 1932 in Garfield Wa. to Readia R. Stevenson (Davis), and William I. West. He passed away December 4, 2017 surrounded by his children. Allen is preceded in death by his Mother, Father and siblings Pearl, Opal, Orval, and Irvin, and his beloved wife Shirley Jean. Allen attended school in Tekoa, WA and worked the family farm and participated in Rodeo competitions. He moved to Ellensburg WA to work on a Dude Ranch as a ranch hand and stage coach driver. He then enlisted in the Air Force in 1952 and was stationed in Texas and also served in the Korean war. His civilian service job was as firefighter, which he enjoyed. During this time, he met his wife Shirley and they married June 15, 1954. They enjoyed 58 years of marriage before Shirley passed away in 2012. Upon honorable discharge from the Air Force, they moved back to the Northwest calling Hayden, Idaho home for many years, then moved to Spokane Valley. He worked at Armour Meat Packing Plant in Spokane. He also enjoyed his small family farm with horses, a few cows, chickens and a large garden, and raising his children in rural setting. He was creative and quite artistic, enjoying leather work, reading and music. If there was something to be fixed he was there, to lend a hand He was the family taxi service too. He enjoyed spending time with his kids and grandkids. He was a hard-working man that loved his family, God and country. He loved the cowboy way of life, a true gentlemen cowboy. He is survived by many cousins, nieces, nephews, friends, and his 5 children, David West (Tammy), Judy Travis, Brenda Messer (Greg), Kenny West, Larry West (Pamela); 8 grandchildren, Bradley West, Briana West (Brian), Alyssa West, Stephen Travis (Teresa), Daniel Travis (Whitney), Kevin Messer (Ashley), Rachel Messer and Lucas West; 6 great-grandchildren, Keeth, Mackenzie, Rachell Travis, Levi Travis, Maliki Messer and Bentley Messer. We love you Papa. Oh, the last goodbye is the hardest one to say. And this is where the cowboy rides away. Memorial Services and celebration of Allens life will be held Monday, December 11, 2017 at 10 am at Heritage Funeral Home, 508 N Government Way, Spokane, WA 99224 with graveside service to follow. A reception will be held at The Museum Event Center, 5225 N Freya, Spokane, WA.
