Alonzo T. Pippenger Obituary
Alonzo T. Pippenger, age 85, passed away in Spokane, WA on September 16, 2011. He was born in Chicago, IL on December 20, 1925 to Kenneth and Margaret Pippenger. After graduating from Tilden Tech High School in January of 1944, he went into the service under the Army Air Force. While stationed at Geiger Field, he met his future wife Helen at the old Cooks Roller Rink. They became engaged before he went overseas during World War II. He would serve in the Pacific Theater, specifically in Guam and Okinawa. After leaving the service in the summer of 1946, he and Helen married on July 24 of that same year. Al enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. He was a member of I.B.E.W. 73 and Shadle Park Presbyterian Church where he sang in the choir for years. Together they raised 8 children and are survived by 7; Barbara (Dean) Garvey, James (Shirley) Pippenger, Judith Simons, Steven (Kathy) Pippenger, Dale (Lori) Pippenger, Marlene (Pat) Cantlon and Barry Pippenger all of Spokane, WA. Al was preceded in death by his son, Gerald Pippenger. He is also survived by his sisters, Beulah Stultz of Hammond, IN and Virginia Snyder of Slater, MO, 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren. His family wishes to thank North Point Dialysis and Royal Park Care Center for their wonderful care. A time of visitation will be held at Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 8am to 5pm. A funeral service will be held at Shadle Park Presbyterian Church, 5508 North Alberta Street, Spokane, WA 99205 on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 1pm. A graveside service with military honors will follow at 3:30pm at Pines Cemetery.
