Alvina Louise Clemm Obituary Mom was 88 years old when the good Lord decided to take her to be with Him. In His wisdom, he knew that she could not be made well here and that it was time to go to where there is no suffering. She went peacefully in her sleep. Thank you, Lord. Mom was born to William Teske and Ida Reiter in Tekoa, WA. She was raised on a farm between Tekoa and Oaksdale. She would attend school in both towns and graduated from Tekoa High School. She attended Kinman Business University in Spokane and got her Secretarial Degree. She went to work for the Great NW Life Insurance Company and later for Keystone Frame and Mfg. Company. Mom and Dad met in a boarding house (girls on one floor and guys on the other) on 7th Avenue. Dad and his brother had just moved there from another boarding house and at the time dad was working for Safeway. They were married on January 11, 1948. Dad went on to work for Pacific Northwest Bell Telephone Company and for a while he and mom lived in Moses Lake. Later, they would transfer back to Spokane. They had two sons, Wayne born in 1951 and Dale in 1954. As far back as we can remember, mom and dad have always danced. According to a letter we found, they took their first square dance lessons in 1949/50 at Lewis and Clark High School. They quit dancing when we kids came along, but started back ten years later in 1960. They took lessons again and through the years belonged to various clubs (Flying Squares, Kountry Kuzzins, Boots and Slippers). In 1963, an opportunity came along to take a callers class. Mom and dad both attended and began teaching square and round dancing. The first club they called for was the Miss n Links in Colville. After a few years of driving back and forth to Colville, they decided to was time to stay in Spokane where they called first for Boots and Slippers and then a new club called Buttons n Bows. They danced and called for over 17 years. When dad retired, they became snowbirds going between Mesa, AZ and Spokane. Somewhere along the line they took up Polka dancing and danced as long as mom was able. Mom and dad enjoyed traveling. They drove the Al/Can Highway, went across the country to the Florida Keys and later went on vacations with their kids to the Oregon Coast and on several ocean cruises including Alaska, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal and the Mexican Riviera. We even got them zip lining in Costa Rica. Mom and dad also loved to fish. Alvina is survived by her husband of 69 years, Clifford Clemm; son, Wayne (Anita) Clemm; three grandchildren, Anna (Chris) Cheathem, Steven (Tara) Clemm and Kathy (Hector) Santiago; and five great grandkids, Megan, Jackson, Morgan, Hayden and Ryker. She was preceded in death by her son, Dale (Marlene) Clemm. We will miss you mom and your infamous one-liners. We look forward to seeing you and Dale again. A celebration of Alvinas life will take place at Heritage Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 21st at 11am with a reception following.
