Ann Davis Reed Obituary
Ann Davis Reed, age 91, passed away peacefully on Saturday October 22, 2016 at Touchmark on South Hill in Spokane, Washington. She was born May 10, 1925 in Cleveland, Ohio to Rees Howell and Marjorie (Talamo) Davis. She attended Park School and Shaker Heights High School before enrolling at Antioch College in Yellow Springs in 1943. She met her future husband, John Leon Reed, while at Antioch and they were married in Shaker Heights, Ohio on December 07, 1946.
John was in the Army Air Corps in WWIIs Pacific War, the Air Force in the Korean War, and in the Cold War at front-line NATO facilities in France and Germany. He retired in March 1965. Ann and her daughters, Sydney Ann, Kristen Elizabeth, and Susan Davis all benefited from the opportunity to live in Europe for many years.
After moving to Moscow, Idaho in 1968, Ann began work at the University of Idahos Student Health Center, where she truly enjoyed the interaction with her colleagues and the students over the next 20 or so years. She was active with the Humane Society of the Palouse, Girl Scouts of America, American Red Cross, ASPCA, and Special Olympics. By moving to Idaho Ann was returned to her Fathers Mormon heritage. His family was instrumental in settling Southeastern Idaho, while his Fathers influence in the Idaho Republican Party and ownership of newspapers The Malad Enterprise (1886), The Caldwell Tribune (1893), and The Oneida Herald (1893) lasted until his death in 1906. In 1991, Ann was asked to speak at the dedication of Finney Hall at the College of Idaho in recognition of Miss Julia V. Finney. Miss Finney and Dr. William Judson Boone, founder of the College of Idaho and great friend of her Grandfather, were influential in directing Anns father, Rees who was attending the College, to go East young man. There he graduated Oberlin College and Western Reserve and became a successful attorney and local Republican politician.
Ann lived her life to the fullest through simple pleasures: chatting with friends and family, enjoying her dogs and cats, taking the extended family to Priest Lake, and traveling within the United States and abroad. She will be remembered for her love of people and animals, her bright smile, and her great sense of humor. Her kindness and love will comfort us. She is survived by her daughter, Sydney Ann Reed (Douglas Storkovich) of San Rafael, CA and her three grandchildren, Edward Flathers of Moscow, Idaho; Travis Messinger (Michelle) of Spokane, Washington; and Molly Messinger (Zack) Wolf of Spokane, Washington. Ann was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband, and daughters Kristen and Susan.
