Anna Elizabeth “Liz” Hughes, 83, of Otis Orchards passed away on June 8, 2025.  She was born on December 24, 1941 in Santa Barbara, CA to Daniel Sundin and Beth Emily Potter.

Anna Elizabeth graduated from California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, in 1970 with a degree in Elementary & Secondary Education.  In 1971, she moved to Santa Ana, California, where she accepted a position as a Gym and Science Teacher at McFadden Middle School  and worked for more than 24 years. During this period, she earned a Master's Degree in Education from the United States International University, San Diego in 1986.

Liz, as she was affectionately known married Jess Steven (Steve) Hughes in 1981, but the couple had no children together.  She was an accomplished flute and piccolo player and served as the principal player in several community orchestras in Southern California.  LIz was an avid equestrian and horse owner who rode horses in many hunter-jumper and Dressage competitions.  Her family and friends will always remember her as a very caring, lively, and intelligent person who always went out of her way to help anyone in need.

Liz is survived by her husband, Steve, her step-son, Christopher Hughes, and her brother, Richard.

The family would like to thank Hospice of Spokane for all their caring support and assistance. They were so good to Anna.  Donations can be sent to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
