She was born December 14, 1930 at Wenatchee WA. She lived on a farm near Ephrata until she was seven, then moved with her family to a farm north of Pullman, Washington. She enjoyed riding horses, working outside on the farm and attending the dances at school. She became head majorette at Pullman High School and graduated in 1948. She moved to Spokane where she attended beauty school and modeled. In 1951 she married Thomas McCandless and moved to the Spokane Valley where she raised three children. She was involved in the sand and gravel business for over 40 years, eventually becoming part owner of the company. She built a beautiful home and retired in her 70s. Jeanie loved to play the piano and the accordion, traveled extensively, and owned race horses. She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and attended the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene. Jeanie was a devoted mother and grandmother. She is survived by two daughters, Marvel Travis and Cindee McCandless, and one son, Bruce McCandless, all of Spokane. She is preceded in death by two brothers, Harvey Vernier of Moses Lake, and Elry Vernier of Pullman, and one sister, Carol Nelson of Pendleton, Oregon. A viewing will take place at Heritage Funeral Home, Tuesday, June 3rd between 10 and 5. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, June 4th at 1:00 PM at the Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E. 20th Ave., Spokane Valley.
