August 23, 1944 - October 04, 2012

Arelia R. "Cheryl" Tober Obituary Arelia R. Tober passed away on October 4, 2012, after a brief but courageous battle with cancer. Known to friends and family as Cheryl, she was born on August 23, 1944 in Los Angeles, California. The youngest of four children to parents William Isaiah Fowler and Minnie Carol Eames, she and her family remained in Los Angeles throughout her youth. She graduated from Gardena High School in 1963. Cheryl was raised within the Seventh Day Adventist Church and it was at a youth group activity that she first met her future husband, Larry Michael Paul Tober. They were married on August 15, 1965 and had their first child, Christopher, in 1966. They lived in California for a number of years but also enjoyed living in New York and Oregon. The family eventually moved back to California and Cheryl became pregnant with their second child, Amanda, who was born in 1977. In 1980 Cheryl relocated with her family to Spokane and shortly thereafter opened her home to a young developmentally disabled girl, Angie, whom she raised as one of her own children. Cheryl continued her education past high school and, although she never achieved a formal degree, she loved learning and took great pleasure in being a student - either through college courses or trade school. Cheryl also worked throughout her life in several vocations but her greatest joy came from being a homemaker, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and friends and her "retired" years were spent taking care of her three grandchildren who filled her days with constant laughter and pleasure. Cheryl was preceded in death by her husband in October 1976. She is survived by her son, Christopher; daughter, Amanda, son-in-law, Darrin, and grandchildren, Gabriel, Regan and Zachary; foster daughter, Angie; sister Karen and brother-in-law James; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as her late husband's extended family. Following Cheryl's wishes, there will not be a formal service. The family invites all of Cheryl's friends and family to an intimate memorial dinner on Saturday, October 27, 2012 from 5-8 p.m. For more information, please visit Cheryl's memorial website at www.CherylToberRemembered.com
