She was preceded in death by her parents, Alton Charles Gilby and Julia Easthouse Gilby; her brother, Alton R. Gilby; and grandson, Col. David D. Banholzer. As a child she lived in Chicago, IL and in TX but spent most of her years growing up in Longview, WA where she graduated from R.A. Long High School in 1943. She went on to graduate from Winters School of Engraving in Oakpark, IL. Following WWII, on July 7, 1946, she married the love of her life, Louis G. Anderson and they relocated to Pullman, WA. Following Louis graduation from Washington State University, they moved to Spokane, WA, where they celebrated 71 years of marriage. Barbara often spoke of growing old together and their love becoming truer, deeper and richer. Barbara had a long career in the jewelry business, providing beautiful hand engraving, for her fathers store, Gilby Jewelers in Longview, and for jewelers throughout WA, OR, and ID. Her career included Teneffs Mfg., Dodsons Jewelers and retiring from Jewelry Design Center. Barbara was always happiest when she was serving others from customers in the jewelry stores to customers at Anderson Acres, the farm she and Louis purchased in 1967. She always treasured the many, dear friends she made selling apples, cherries and other fruit on their farm. Barbara was an avid quilter and throughout her life enjoyed pastimes such as bridge, crosswords puzzles, and reading. Her service to others extended through a 50-yr. membership in Beta Sigma Phi. She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church and was active in that community as well. She will be remembered as a loving, caring, smart, and strong woman who passed on her confidence and strength to her children and family. The family would like to thank the owners and staff at Fairwood Assisted Living for the compassionate and wonderful care Mom received in the past few years of her life. Visitation will be held Thursday, November 16th from 10am 5pm at Heritage Funeral Home.
