Barbara J. (Earsley) Pugh Obituary Barbara went home to the Lord on February 4, 2012 in Spokane, WA. She was born on June 30, 1929 in Spokane to Myrtie and Norman Shults. The family moved to Montana shortly after her birth but returned to Spokane in 1935 where she continued to reside. She attended Wilson Elementary School and graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1947. Barbara attended Spokane Community College and Spokane Falls Community College, taking secretarial and office management classes for her chosen vocation. She worked for Spokane Public School District #81 for 27 years as an Administrative Secretary, providing professional services for Area Superintendents and Program Development, Basic Education, Business and Health Services. She was also active in school and community affairs while her children were in school. PTA and the Spokane County United School Groups activities promoting school levies and bond issues, as well as school legislative issues at the state level, were community issues she devoted her time and talent. She was awarded the Golden Acorn Award by the Spokane County PTA Council in 1959. Barbara set up an office and managed a Christian Counseling Center for three years after retiring from District #81. Parliamentary law was of intense interest to Barbara and she became a member of the American Institute of Parliamentarians and an ongoing student servicing many local and regional organizations as parliamentarian for over 30 years. She married Lyle Pugh in 1974 and when Lyle retired the two of them became active in the Spokane Area Retired Educators Association. She was the Newsletter editor for four years, then was elected President of the unit and followed that by being editor of the Directory for four years. Her skills were recognized at the state level and she was selected to be a member of the Rules and Resolutions Committee for three years then Chair of the Committee and a member of the Ad Hoc Committee to Revise Governance Documents. Barbara was appointed Secretary of the Executive Board, Washington State School Retirees Association, a position she held for 18 ? years. She was recognized by those attending the state convention as ?the lady with the hats?. Barbara?s hobbies were needlepoint, traveling (Israel in 2000), shopping at ?out of the way places? and other cities. Three sons were born to Barbara: Steven Earsley, Robert Earsley (deceased), and Tom Earsley. In addition to her husband and two sons, she is survived by Tom Earsley, Jeannie and grandchildren Steven V. and wife Stacie White and great-granddaughter Kylie Kay White and granddaughter Sierra Earsley, all of Spokane. Lyle?s children and grandchildren were also loved by Barbara. Lynn and wife Teresa Pugh with granddaughters Angelyn and husband Bryan Harris, Carly and husband Brian Nicol, Julia Langston, Portland, OR, and great-granddaughter Madlyn Harris and great-grandsons Ayden Harris and Owen Nicol of Mount Vernon, WA; Christi and husand Jay Hale with grandsons Jeremy and wife Sarah Crogan and Sean and wife Christina McGhee and great-granddaughter Halley Crogan and great-grandsons Dylan and Kaleb Crogan and Brayden McGhee of Oak Harbor, WA; Cindy Boteilho of Oak Harbor, WA and grandson Jesse and wife Brandy Johnson and grandsons Jacob and Joshua Johnson and great-grandson Harley Johnson and great-granddaughter Madison Johnson of Spokane; Michael and Lynn Pugh of Oak Harbor, WA and grandsons David and Timothy Pugh of Silverdale, WA. Memorials may be made to Crossover Church, 16826 N. Newport Highway, Mead, WA 99021, or to Washington State School Retirees Foundation, 4726 Pacific Ave. SE, Lacey, WA 98503. A Funeral Service will be held Saturday, February 11, 2012 at 1:00pm at Heritage Funeral Home.
