Barbara Johnson, age 86, of Nine Mile Falls, Washington, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones.
Barbara was born on August 14, 1938, to Allen and Ann Gijanto in the historic town of Ticonderoga, New York. She spent her formative years surrounded by the love of her mother’s extended family in Windsor Locks, Connecticut, as well as in the scenic beauty of Ticonderoga. A proud graduate of Ticonderoga High School’s Class of 1956, Barbara carried the spirit of her hometown with her throughout her life.
In 1957, she married the love of her life, Donald Johnson, in Ticonderoga. The couple made their home on Streetroad in Ticonderoga where they raised three children and built a life filled with laughter, hard work, and enduring love. Together, they operated Johnson’s Orchards, cultivating not just fruit, but a deep connection to the land and their community. Barbara took great joy in their picturesque home, cherishing the memories made there with family and friends.
In 1975, Barbara and Donald embraced a new adventure, relocating to Valley, Washington, where they became the proud owners of Silver Beach Resort at Waitts Lake. Barbara’s warm smile and gracious spirit made every guest feel welcome. She truly enjoyed connecting with people and brought joy to all who visited the resort.
Their journey eventually led them to Nine Mile Falls in 1984, where Barbara continued to fill her days with creativity, kindness, and love. She was a gifted crafter and quilter, known for her intricate handiwork and attention to detail. Her garden bloomed under her careful touch, and her kitchen was always filled with the comforting aroma of homemade treats.
Barbara’s love for art and children came together when she began volunteering at her granddaughter Anna’s private school. There, she shared her artistic talents by assisting in the classroom and teaching art, delighting the students with her creativity and gentle encouragement. Her time at the school became one of her most cherished roles, as she inspired young minds to explore their imagination through color and expression.
Barbara was a woman of boundless compassion, a loyal friend, and a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. Her giving nature and unwavering dedication to her family were the hallmarks of her beautiful life.
She is survived by her beloved husband of 68 years, Donald Johnson, and their three children: Donna Nelson, Daniel Johnson (Jeanie), and Debra Fuller (Brad). Barbara was a proud and loving grandmother to Katherine Wing, Dylan Nelson, Annie Almanza, and Anna Fuller, each of whom brought immense joy to her life.
Barbara's gentle soul, generous heart, and joyful spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
