Bettie Jean Robinson Obituary
(Age 84)
Mother, Grandmother, Sister, and Friend
Bettie went to be with the Lord on March 21st, 2010. She had been hospitalized for the past 10 weeks after a fall and the complications that followed. She was born on November 11, 1925 to John and Nellie Turner. A life long resident of Spokane she attended Rogers High School and Eastern Washington State College. Bettie was an outstanding student and genius in math. Shortly after college she married Thomas Emery Robinson of Lewiston, Idaho. Bettie grew up during the difficult time of the Depression. She and her sister Helen made the best of the hard times and enjoyed the little things; including the summers they spent with friends at Diamond Lake, and she often talked about the USO Dances at Natatorium Park during World War II. Bettie worked as the office manager in the Building and Planning Department at City Hall from 1966 until her retirement in 1996. She loved her job and the people she worked with and especially shopping in downtown Spokane. Bettie looked forward to and celebrated each and every holiday. She will always be remembered for her delicious cooking, beautiful flowers, and incredible Christmas decorations. Bettie loved being with her family and working in her yard caring for her roses and begonias. She always had a house full of animals, which were her pride and joy. She loved all sports, baseball and car racing were her particular favorites. In the 60's she was the number one supporter of the Spokane Indians, walking to and from the games with her children. She was also a huge fan of American Idol and very passionate about her favorites. She is survived by her children Sue and husband Ray Stookey, Tom "Rob" Robinson of Seattle, and Steve Robinson. She leaves her grandchildren whom she adored, Shannon and husband John Flahavin, Geoff Stookey of South Bend Indianna, Erinn Stookey and great-grandchildren Elizabeth and Brady Flahavin. She is also survived by her sister Helen Cook and her family in California. Bettie was the most amazing mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Our family was so blessed to have her in our lives. She will be remembered for her tiny stature and strong personality. She had a strong will, gentle spirit and a love of life. We will miss her love, support, kindness, generosity, and spunk. Mother, Grandma Bettie will be missed but not forgotten. Bettie's family would like to thank the staff of St. Josephs Care Center, especially AJ, for their loving care during the last few months.
