Betty Arlene (Redding) Shryack Obituary
Betty was born December 7, 1923, in Windom, MN., the youngest of the six children of John G. and Clover B. Redding, who have all pre-deceased her. The family moved to Spokane just months after her birth, where she attended Grant Grade School, Lewis and Clark High School and N.W. Business College. There she met her future husband, Jack L. Shryack. They were married on February 6th, 1943 -- Jack?s birthday and the day he was inducted into the Army. Jack died in February, 2012, after 69 years of marriage. They leave two children, Jan L. Shryack (wife Tina) and Barbara K. Melville (husband Mike), 11 grand- and step-grandchildren, many great-grandkids, one great-great grandchild, and lots of nieces and nephews to whom she meant a lot. Betty was a homemaker extraordinaire for all of her life, but in her early years she took a few interesting jobs: during WWII she worked at the ?Air Depot?, she was the driver for the Totten Dance Studio, was a supermarket ?product demonstrator?, and for several years worked at the public assistance clinic for the company that was to become Medical Service Corporation. In 1966 Betty and Jack moved to Marysville, WA, where they had lots of adventures as empty-nesters, reconnected with family on the coast and met lots of new friends with whom they remained in contact for many years after. Betty also worked at the polls there on election days. They returned to Spokane in 1989. Betty was an avid reader who especially enjoyed poetry, reciting poems from memory and even writing a few for her kids. When younger she enjoyed square-dancing, singing with a group called the Harmonaires, doing lots of arts and crafts and gardening. But most of all, she was devoted to and proudest of her family. Betty NEVER forgot to acknowledge the birthdays of family members and most holidays with a special card or gift. Betty?s family would like to acknowledge and thank the many staff members of Gentiva Home Health, Gentiva Hospice, and the Crystal Rose AFH who helped so much with her care in her final days. Friends and family are invited to join us for a picnic at 5 p.m. on August 2, 2015, at Terrace View Park to celebrate Betty?s life.
