Betty Jane Hoffman Obituary
(Age 84)
A life-long Spokane resident, Betty passed away peacefully after fighting a battle with cancer. She was a very strong and loving woman that was always supportive of her family and friends.
Betty found satisfaction in a variety of activities such as gardening or just enjoying the outdoors, collecting ?Betty Boop? character items which is where her nickname came from. Traveling was one of her great loves. Her eyes would light up with the excitement of each new experience. Whether it was the glorious landscape, the smiles of people traveling with her or an occasional wild animal, Betty was truly happy.
Betty?s dog, Angel was a source of great comfort and companionship over the years. Quality time was spent with Angel whether it be on a walk or just curled up next to her for their afternoon nap.
She graduated from North Central High School in 1945 and in 1949 she became a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority at WSU and pledged to live her life in a vast sisterhood of incalculable strength, a rational force for good. It was this spirit of love and friendship which served to draw her into an ever closer harmony with the Divine. She was also a charter member of Job?s Daughters, Bethel 7, Audubon Park and was a member of the Spokane College Women?s Association.
In 1973 Betty joined the Deaconess Medical Center Auxiliary as a volunteer. She had remained an active member for a total of 38 years. Betty found great satisfaction through her volunteer work
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Arthur L. Hoffman, Jr. of Spokane; her son-in-law Steven M. Gray of Anchorage, AK and cousin Chad Almquist of Spokane.
Betty is survived by her son Gary A. Hoffman and wife Melody Davis of Anchorage, AK; daughter Debbie Gray and grandson Jason of Anchorage; son Dan Hoffman of Spokane; daughters Danielle Lucido and Candice Belanger of Boston, MA; son Scott Hoffman and wife Susan of Moses Lake, WA; Morgan Derington, Tavia Lesser of Moses Lake; daughter Pam Hoffman and partner Diane Moreno of Fresno, CA. Her extended family includes Gene and Sharon Almquist of Spokane, their son Eric Almquist and wife Kelly and daughters Ashley and Brooke of Moses Lake; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren in Betty?s family circle.
Everyone who met Betty quickly grew to love her. She always had a smile and kind word for all she met. She loved each and every member of her family and friends. We are comforted by knowing that she is with the Lord now, but words cannot express how much she will be missed.
Visitation will be Saturday 8-5PM at Heritage and Funeral Service 1:00PM Monday Nov. 21, 2011 at Heritage Chapel.
